THE DRUIDS’ LODGES.
CHRISTMAS TREE
Last night the members of Lodge Euroka and the Juvenile Lodge assembled for the annual Christmas tree function. The meeting was opened by th c R.A.D. Bro. McNaught. The secretary, Bro. A. C. Johnstone, gave a few notes as to the commencing of this annual meeting 13 years ago, claiming that Lodge Eureka was the first lodge in Hawke’s Bay to hold a meeting for the children of members with a Christmas tree. An alarm was then received that Father Christmas ,hrq] arrived and the candles on the tree having been, lighted and all other lights switched off. Father Christmas was admitted in Druidic form and welcomed by Bro. McNaught on behalf of Lodge Eureka, and by Bro. Kemp, junr., on behalf of the Juvenile Lodge, Pioneer No. 17. The children were then supplied with a toy each, and as many as possible were seated at supper, the remainder, with the adults, being entertained by items by members of the Juvenile Lodge and others. The items included recitations or songs by Nellie Smith, S. O’Neill, B. Afillar, K. Ho}>kins, Dorothy Luttrell, Sylvia Allen, Joyce Growcott, and Eileen Taylor. While the adults were seated at supper the children indulged in games and frolics until 9.30, when proceedings terminated with th© singing of the National Anthem.
