The news of the League’s decision was received in Mosul with feelings of relief. Many houses displayed the I raq flag. With the prospect of the .city remaining permanently in Iraq business is already improving. The decision caused no great surprise in Baghdad, politicians declaring that the justice of Iraq’s claim was obvious. KiVig Feisul is delighted, considering there will be little difficulty in negotiating a 25-year treaty, or even longer, provided the dignity* of the Iraq nation is preserved. He prophesies groat commercial developments as the result of the security afforded by the Mosul decision, including the possibility of a direct transdesert railway uniting Baghdad and Die .diteranean ports.—(A. and N.Z.) ANG ORA’S DECI SION UNCERT Al N. TEWFIK ON THE SITUATION. (Received 21, 9.30 a.m.) Paris, Dec. 20. Tcwflk Ruslidi Bey said that he could not forecast the decision of the Angora Assembly regarding the Mosul situation which he described as delicate, and even critical. He emphasised Turkey’s desire for peace, but Turkey, though abhorring war, would, if necessary, act in national defence. He said that Turko-Soviet relations were those of good neighbourliness, the closeness of which would continue to be developed in relation to events. —(A and N.Z.)
