MISCELLANEOUS CABLES.
The “Daily Telegraph” states that the Department of Overseas Trade is considering lhe possibility of promot* ing the production of raw silk within the Empire. A preliminary investigation has shown North Queensland among tho areas suitable for the cultivation of the silk worm. The New South Wales Labour caucus discussed tho alleged Nationalist plot, to bribe certain members of the Labour party and decidml to call upon the directors of the “Labour Daily” newspaper, in which tho statement was first published, to appear before the caucus on Alonday and give a full explanation. A remarkable, hailstorm ruined gardens and stripped crops in the Corainba district, on the North Coast of Now South Wales. Lumps of ice as big as cricket nails fell.
