EXCESSIVE IMPORTS.

LAST YEAR’S FIGURES. Wellington, May 4. The annual report of the Chamber of Commerce points out that imports last year were again ominously heavy, showing an increase of £5,163.215. The total trade was over £101.000.000. the second highest on record. There was still a margin of nearly•£4,ooo.ooo of exports over imports, but this, though good was not enough. ’The exchange favours importers, and the report warns the public against excessive importation.
