WANGANUI DEFEATS AUCK LAND. POTTED GOAL DECIDES THE ISSUE. (Per Press Association.) Wanganui, Sept. 10. Wanganui defeated Auckland by ten points to eight after a scrambling forward game marked by a dramatic ending. Auckland led by five to nil at half time —a try scored by Keary at the end of a forward rush and converted by Ifwersen. Early in the sec. ond half’ Collier, from a passing run, scored for Wanganui. Ifwersen increased Auckland’s score by three points with a fine penalty goal. Dyke, at the end of a passing run, scored another try for Wanganui. Auckland maintained the lead until just on the call of time, when, in the midst of an attack by Wanganui, McAuliffe potted a goal, which gave the home team the victory.

CANTERBURY BEATS MARLBOROUGH. Christchurch, Sept. 10. Canterbury and Marlborough Rugby representatives tried conclusions at Lancaster Park, the home team winning by 26 points to 11. The ground was liard and the weather too warm for football, WELLINGTON TOO GOOD FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY. Timaru. Sept. 10. The inter-provinoial Rugby match, Wellington v. South Canterbury, attracted a largo attendance to-day and keen interest was taken in the match. The weather was beautifully fine, but the long continued absence of rain caused the ground to bv very hard. The play was fast and open and the game ended in a victory for Wellington by 25 to 13.

HASTINGS MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB.

There were a number of good scores put on this week. L. E. Brathwaite proved himself a consistent shot by putting on a third possible for the season. He took first trophy and L. Knuckey took second trophy after two interesting shoot-offs.
