Lord and Lady Jellicoe arrived in Wanganui yesterday on a farewell official visit. In the afternoon they witnessed the Auckland-Wanganui football match, and last night were the guests of the Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society at the production of “The Gay Parisienne.” Lord Jellicoe was also entertained at the Cosmopolitan Club. To-day the party go to the races, and to-night Lord Jellicoe will attend a big Masonic function. Sir James Carroll left Hastings this morning on his way to Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Warren left Hastings this morning for Whangarei, where Airs. Warren’s father is lying seriously ill.

Air. J. Ellis, of Taradale, who underwent a very serious operation in Napier last Thursday is now progressing favourably.

Air. Bennett, who left Hastings, where he was sergeant-major in charge a few years ago, to go into business near Dannevirke, is at present in Hastings on a short visit.

Sydney newspapers published appreciative notices of Miss Kathleen Jansen, the New Zealand soprano, whose opening concert was well attended. They praised the quality of her voice.

The friends of Mrs T Malloy, of Hastings, who underwent a senous operation in the Napier Hospital last Friday, will be glad to learn that she was showing a great improvement in her condition this morning.

Mr. AV. Cahill, general manager of the Southern Cross Insurance Coy. Ltd., is visiting Napier and is staying at the Alasonic Hotel. He is accompanied by Air,. Shelley B. Atkinson, who has been appointed chief inspector for Hawke’s Bay.

Airs. AV. B. Fisher, of Wellington, has been appointed Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem by his Majesty the King, in recognition of her services on behalf of the Red Cross in England during the war. Airs. Fisher is the fifth New Zealand woman to be so honured.
