LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

HARBOUR BOARD SECTIONS. TO BE PLACED IN MARKET. The secretary (Mr. Kenny) reported to the Napier Harbour Board yesterday as follows:— “When the C.D.K. was en route to the Awatoto block advantage was taken of utilising her pumping material on to the area at the south end of Hastings street between the High School block and Ellison street, and on the 28th ulti. the chairman (Mr. Geo. Latham, Mr. Guy Rochfort, the dredge master (Mr. Geo. Plank), and the writer went over the whole block and came to a decision as to the best and earliest means of placing the_sections on the market for lease.

“On the 2nd inst. one two-hprse scoop team and one two-horse plough team were started, and the dredge crew with two extra men are employed making dams, planting willows, etc., in readiness for pumping operations. More teams will be employed as soon as possible and the whole work will he so expedited that he hope to have the 54 sections ready for occupation in about three months. “Mr. Geo. Latham, whose experience in land reclamation is so well known, has promised the chairman to lend every, possible assistance in furthering the work, and on the 2nd inst., he, with Mr. Plank and the writer, made another tour of inspection ana instructed the surveyor to define the road lines as soon as he conveniently can and the lay-out of the land generally.” The report was adopted.
