Japanese Steamer Sunk
Terrible Shipwreck NEARLY 200 LIVES LOST. ONLY TWENTY-FIVE SAVED. (By Cable —Press Assooiatiou—Copyright.] (Received 29. 10.45 a.m.) Tokio, July 28. The North Japan Steamship Company’s Tairei Maru was lost off Cape Notoro last evening, and 138 passengers and 51 of the crew were drowned. Eighteen passengers and five of the crew landed in lifeboats at Notoro village. Th© caus© of the disaster is variously reported. It is uncertain whether the vessel struck rocks or collided with another ship.—(A. and N.Z.)
