EXCITEMENT IN CHINESE GAMING HOUSE. Wellington, April 29. Haining street, the centre of "Wellington’s Chinatown, was thrown last evening into a state of excitement as the result of the actions of a European said to have been participating in a game in one of the houses there. Several Chinese and two or three whites were alleged to have been gambling, and between £6O and £7O. forming th© “bank,” was on the table when on© of the men snatched it up and cleared out and made good his escape down th© street, being too fleet for the pursuing celestials. He dropped some coin in his flight and for awhile the excited Chinese engaged in a search for this by the aid of pocket torches nnd /hatches. but th© result was not very gratifying. - Wellington, April 29. John O’Brien, alias Edward Cotter, was arrested in connection with the theft from a Chinaman’s house in Haining street of £1 in silver. Ho wag sentenced to two months’ imprisonment
