FIRES.
A DWELLING GUTTED. Masterton. Jan. 31. A six-roomed house, owned by Mr J. Ingram and occupied by Mr J. Stevenson was gutted by fire, and the contents were completely destroyed. Though in the middle of the town, tho house was situated past the end of the four-meh main, and at the start tho brigade found it difficult to cope with the outbreak, and it was not till the town supply was cut. off that sufficient water was available to extinguish the blaze. The structure was of old design and burned furiously. The insurance was £4OO on the house and £2OO on the contents.—Press Association.
About 3.15 yesterday afternoon a lire broke uut among the contents of a store-room at the residence of Mr ii. Braddell in Gray’s road, Hastings. Fortunately it was noticed before it Lad obtained a strong hold, and early help ers were able to subdue ihe flames with buckets of water, while the Fire Brigade, which responded very promptly to a telephone call, specedily averted all further danger.
