WAIPUKURAU.
(Own Correspondent.) The AVaipukurau Public Reading-room has rapidly increased in popularity of late years, due no doubt to the large number of daily newspapers available. Over twenty of the leading daily newspapers of the Dominion, including the metropolitan ones, are available to the public. The heat still continues unabated, and the country is badly in need of a heavy downpour. A warm wind vesterdav added to the discomforts of the heat. Good progress is being made with the alteration at the Waipukvrau Racc- • course and it is confidently anticipated that all will be finished before the Boxing Day meeting. The grandstand has been moved, whilst great improvements have been made in the provision of a new stand for the stewards, press and officials.
