HASTINGS CARNIVAL.

THE DECORATIONS. SPORTS AND CONCERT. Workmen wore busy in Hastings this morning erecting six arches along Heretaunga street in preparation for the Jubilee Carnival commencing on Monday. The structures as they take shape give promise of making splendid show, which will be enhanced by the decorations of growing trees, bunting draperies and brilliant colouring, all combining to make a happy and inspiring picture. A large number of the the shopkeepers have set to work setting out their windows in the window dressing competition and from progress appearances, the displays will be very artistic in conception and original in design. The weather still looks moody, but hopes are entertained that next week will be ushered in with brilliant sunshine. A meeting of the sports’ committee in connection with the Hastings Jubilee Carnival’was held last Thursday evening, Air W. Jones presiding over a very enthusiastic meeting. Various details were arranged and committees appointed to take charge of the different events. A full programme of the sports events was published in last night’s issue. Owing to the splendid success of “Babes in the Wood’’ the executive of the Progress League has requested the Hastings Orphans to repeat their excellent performance at the concert on Tuesday night... so that all may have an opportunity of seeing this unique production.
