HAVELOCK NORTH.

TOWN BOARD. (Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Havelock North Town Board was held last evening. Present: Mr J. Phillips (chairman), Messrs H. A. Mossman, 8. Graham, P. J. Sefton, J. J. Nimon, L. T. Cooper and J. H. Joll. Correspondence was dealt with as follows:—

Tho Hastings Progress League executive invited the chairman to be present at the opening ceremony of Carnival Week and to a luncheon afterwards. — Accepted.

From the Chief Electrical Engineer. Wellington, asking for daily records of the wattmeter when installed, also records of the voltmeter charts from long distance customers’ charts. —To be supplied. The National Electrical and Engineering Co., Ltd., Auckland, wrote asking for a return of their tender deposit of £lOO, their contract having been completed.—Cheque to be returned. Mr Birks, chief electrical engineer, Wellington, wired stating that information re high voltage lona and Woodford House was received through the department’s own inspector and not from consumers.—Received.

The Hastings Borough Council asked the support of the Havelock Town Board, in the following resolution re Hastings Technical High School: “That this Council strongly protests to the Minister of Education over the apathy and procrastination of his department in not immediately proceeding with the erection of a new Technical High School for Hastings; according to the promises made and recently repeated, and he be again reminded that the local bodies provided the land at considerable cost to themselves, and conditionally the school would be proceeded with when the land was handed over to the Department. This transfer was made three years ago, and this Council calls on the} Minister to honour that contract, and proceed with the establishment qf the school without further delay; and that copies of the resolution be sent to the Acting-Prime Minister and Air G. Ale Kay, M.P.” 'The letter was received. The members considered the language of the resolution rather harsh, but they would support the idea, and write direct to the Minister in more moderate terms, and also send a copy to Sir George Hunter and Air Gilbert McKay, Al’s.P. Mr Sefton brought up the question of the drain on the left hand side of the Hastings road towards the bridge, when* the water could not run away. Members said that if culverts were placed in the gateway of the padclocks, it might ease matters. It was left, in the hands of Air Joll to try and make some improvement.

The following accounts were passed for payment: General account £1002.5s Bd, cemetery account £l9 2s 10d. WOAIEN’S MISSIONARY UNION. The annual shop in connection with St. Columba’s Presbyterian. Women’s Missionary Union was hold in the Foresters ’ Hall to-day. The stalls were loaded with all kinds of articles, which found ready purchasers, most of the goods being sold by noon. The following were the stallholders: —Sewing, Mesdamse Alackenzic, Campbell, Hil(, J. B. Campbell, Davidson Jumble, Mesdames Waugh, J. D. Heenan and Hall. Cakes, Airs AlacLennan and Afiss Couper. Produce, Airs Lock, Airs Gilbertson and Afiss Hill. Sweets, Airs 11. Heenan and Afiss O. Miller.
