KING’S GARDEN PARTY

MANY AUSTRALIAN VISITORS WINSOME DUCHESS. London, July 27. The garden party given at Buckingham Palace was a brilliant social function. There were over 5000 guests, and 150 Australian visitors, residents and officials. The King. Queen. Princess Mary. Prince Henry, and the Duke and of York, taking different directions, mingled with the guests. The greatest interest was shown in the Duchess of York, whose winsomeness and vivacity are establishing .her as one of the most popular figures in society. Australians were astonished to .find that the palace, whose exterior is a dull grey, hides a delightful park with magnificent lawns and gardens looking almost empty despite the 5000 guests. Dark-coloured dresses and long skirts predominated. The King and Queen took tea under a silver canopy brought from after the Durbar.—(Sydney “Su i ’ cable.)
