PORTUGAL.
THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. Lisbon, August 6. The National Assembly elected Senhor M. Teixeira-Gomes, at present Minister in London, President pf the Republic by 121 votes. Under the constitution of Portugal, which became a Republic in 1910, the President is elected by the Senate and the National Council. He holds office for four years, and cannot be re-elected. The retiring President is Senhor Antonio Jose d’Almeida, who assumed office in October. 1919. The Presidentelect. Senhor M. Teixeira-Gomes, has been Minister in London since 1913.
