The Aerial Derby OF LONDON. THE WINNER’S ORDEAL. [By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) London, Aug. 8. The Aerial Derby, over a course making a double circuit around London, aggregating 200 miles, was won by Carter, whose Hying time was 62 minutes 23 seconds. Fligiit-Lieutenant Longton was second, his time being 73 minutes 9 3-5 seconds, and Captain C. Barnard third. 81 minutes I second.

Carter finished at a speed of 220 miles per hour. He emerged from his machine almost stone deaf, scarlet in the face, and soaked in oil. He said he was hardly able to see, as he was blinded by escaping oil. He Hew at an average height of 6000 feet.—(Reuter).

A CRASH IN NORWAY,

TWO AIRMEN KILLED.

Copenhagen, Aug. 6. A military aeroplane of British make crashed near Christiania. The pilot and mechanic were killed. —(A. and N.Z.) FORCED DESCENTS. GERMAN DEVICE FOR STOPPING AIRCRAFT. London, Aug. 6. The “Daily Chronicle’s” Paris correspondent states that a rumour is current to the effect that Germany has discovered a means of stopping the magneto’s action in the course of an aeroplane’s flight, thus forcing descent. During past months many French aeroplanes have been forced to descend in Germany.—(A. and N.Z.)
