Mr. W. L. T. Elliot, son of the Rev. W. J. Elliot, who was travelling with the Auckland cricket team in Taranaki, has had to be removed to the hospital suffering from diptheria. Mr. W. Meldrum, S.M.. is to take the Westport Court until a successor to Mr. Maunsell is appointed. The latter has gone to Nelson in succession to the late Mr. Evans. Mrs R. J. Wildish, well known in musical circles in Gisborne, left last week for Wellington, where she intends to enter the theatrical profession. Captain W. Wilcox, who for some years has occupied the position of as-sistant-superintendent of the Marine Department at Lyttelton, has been transferred to Auckland to act in a similar capacity. Mr. E. H. Williams is at present in Christchurch to witness the playing of the second test match, Maclaren’s M.C.O. team v. New Zealand. The match commenced yesterday and finishes on Monday. There passed away on Wednesday Mrs Walter Davidson, one of the very earliest arrivals in the Nelson settlement. She was born on board the Martha Ridgway in the Bay of Biscay, her parents being Mt. and Mrs Andrew Malcolm. Mr. Justice Angas Parsons, of the Supreme Court of South Australia, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara, and will spend about a month in the Dominion. He is accompanied hy his two sons. Mr. J. B. Mac Ewan. of Wellington, who has been absent since April, is leaving London this week on tbe return journey to New Zealand. He has spent most of his time in Canada, United States. England, and the Continent. The death of the Rev. Mother Marie St. Cajetan occurred at the Cambridge Convent on Saturday morning at the early age of 33 years. The deceased was born in Canterbury, and for many years has been engaged in church work. She went to Cambridge in 1918 to take charge of the local convent. A telegram from Tauranga reports the death of Mr. Thomas Tudhope, aged 77. He served in the ’sixties in the third Waikato regiment and subsequently saw service in Taranaki, being a member of Major von Tempsky’s Forest Rangers. .News has been received of the death in>Melbourne of the Rev. H. W. Burridge. Mr. Burridge had been in ill- - for some time, but the end was not expected. He was born in Melbourne and -was educated at the Presbyterian College there, graduating M.A. and B.D. After he had entered the ministry he. was called to Perth, Western Australia, where he was when he accepted a call to St. Paul’s, Invercargill, about ten years ago. He served for two years in the war and returned to St. Paul’s, but some little time after his return he went to Wellington to supply for seven months during Dr. Gibb’s absence. Subsequently he returned to Australia, accepting a call to St. John’s, Essendon. Melbourne, and remaining in that charge until his death. The University Senate on Thursday announced the results of the recent examinations for the diploma of banking.
