BRITISH SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION ADVANCE PARTY EN ROUTE. [Per Press Association.] (Received 5, 11.10 a.m.) ...London, Jan. 4. The liner Ballarat is bound for Australia. flying the flag of the British Pacific science expedition and bringing an advance party of scientists—Messrs Connolly, geologist. Church, ornithologist, Prescott, mammals, h’rew/en, entomologist, Findlay, topographist The object df the expedition is a thorough scientific exploration of New Guinea. The party will remain in Milliance for some little time, and then proceed to Cape Yorke to study the geological conditions before cross ing the straits to New Guinea. The expedition is influentially supported and is prepared to spend £BO, 600 during four years' work. The duties of tbe present advance partyarc to select base camps, arrange for carrier transport and supplies in New Guinea for the main party, consisting of twenty scientists, who will .leave England (towards the end of 1924, After preliminary investigations are completed the advance party will return to England to report to the committee before the main party leavoi. —(A and N.Z.)‘
