Hastings Carnival
IRRESISTIBLE ENTHUSIASM Mr. H. C. Baird presided over a large and enthusiastic meeting of members of the Entertainment Com mittee of the Hastings Carnival last evening. Apologies were received from many who were unavoidable detained. The following new members were appointed Messrs. J. W. Heighway, P. Loach, R. E. Barley, G. M. Spence, S. J. McKee, E. S. Robson, A. Room, j' J. Cassin, McNab, W. A. Penlington, H. R. Bisley, W. Le Bas, W. Burfield, H. Popplewell, Scott, R. W. C. Steele, A. Crooks, A. E. Bradshaw, J. Lindsay, Will Jones, W. E. Hyslop, C. Dutt, Renton, A. George, W. T. Chaplin, J. D. Common, Knox. The business was to receive suggestions for a programme and various sub-committees to undertake the preparation of the work. The chairman was bombarded with ideas, it was decided to concentrate upon the following events, commencing upon the Monday morning of show week: — MONDAY. Morning—Big opening ceremony. Mid-day—Community sing. Evening—llluminated motor, car parade, Hastings Band and dance in Queen Square. TUESDAY. Morning—Brief Maori entertainment Evening—Special community sing and gymnasium carnival display in Municipal Theatre. WEDNESDAY. Evening—Lantern parade and dance at the Olympia Cabaret. THURSDAY. Evening—Sports gathering in Nelson Park (specialy illuminated). FRIDAY. Midday—Community sing. Evening.—Promeriftde concert in Olympia Cabaret. SATURDAY. Morning—Fancy, dress children’s procession Evening—Open air lorry concert parties. Trades displays, elocutionary and singing competitions, window dressing, baby competitions, etc., are also in hand. The following sub-committees were appointed:— Opening Ceremony.—Messrs. A. E. O’Meara and H. C. Baird. Community Singing.—Messrs. G. M. Spence (chairman), A. K. Don, J. Bewley, R. E. Barley, F. C. Wilkinson. Motor Car Parade.—Mr. E. S. Rob son (chairman). Band and Dance.—S. O. Garland, L. Zala, T. Heighway, A. C. Fawcett, A. Ross, R. Paynter, A. M. Robertson. Gymnasium Display.—Messrs. C.
