VOYAGE TO AUSTRALIA.
IN 25 TON YACHT. FAILURE OF FIRST ATTEMPT. London, Sept. 22. The yacht Seaweed has returned to Southampton owing to bad weather and her unsuitableness for a long voyage. The vessel, encountering storms from the start, turned when abreast of the Scillies, on the fourth day, the boat straining violently. Captain Symonds and his wife passed the night on deck, wearing lifebelts. Their boy was perilously ill and stores were soaked. Mrs Symonds is suffering from the effects of constant drenching and want of food. Captain Symonds intends to reattempt the trip in a similar boat next summer.—(A. and N.Z.) A London cable on the Bth of this month stated that Captain and Mrs. H. J. Symonds had commenced a voyage from Southampton to Australia, via Panama, in the yach Seaweed, of 25 tons.
