OTANE.
TOWN BOARD ELECTION. (Own Correspondent.) On Wednesday the town presented an exceptionally gay appearance, visitors being in for the biennial Town Board election, the shooting match and the football match for the Ransom Cup between the Waipawa High School and the Hastings Technical School. The Town Board poll was the largest known in Otane, only eight residents failing to record their votes, four of those being away. The result was a complete vindication of the progressive ideal of the old board, the three remaining members topping the poll. Voting proceeded right up till the closing hour, one belated voter arriving in time to see the door shut. It was not until after 8 o’clock that the returning officer, Mr. W. Spargo was able to announce the result, which was as follows:— W. Malenoir 119 J. N. Bruce 103 A. G. Clark 99 C. Wedd 77 T. Bruce 75 F. Williams 72 A. Watts 69 R. H. McKay 50 B. Dennis 39 Eight of the candidates returned thanks and three cheers were given for the winners. RUGBY FOOTBALL. The football match was very well contested, Waipawa winning on the call of time by 13 points to 10. SHOOTING. The shooting match was won by Mr. A. Robottom with 15 successive breaks, Mr. O. Rough being second with 14. The w inner was presented with Mr. C. Clark’s handsome trophy by. Mr. M. Ryan.
