HASTINGS CARNIVAL WEEK.
BUSINESS MEN ADVANCE THEIR TOWN. The utmost enthusiasm prevailed last /ught at the secund meeting held to promote the carnival to be held during show week. The chairman, Mr H. C. Baird, brought forward the several necessary details in connection with the proposed carnival, and representativfß were also present from the Hastings Band and the Y.M.C.A. After general discussion it was unanimously carried that the carnival proceeds be devoted to the band and the Y.M.C.A., and any other deserving cause in win k the finance committee are able to assist. Four applications were received for the position of secretary, and after a ballot, Mr {Sydney Peck was chosen tor the position. The generous offer extended to this carnival by the Napier enthusists was highly appreciated, and the several committees set up will endeavour to profit by such valued assistance. Several new uames were added to the list and over one hundred workers will be actually engaged in putting »*p a icoprd for Hastings. The secretary’s headquaiters from today will be Chamber of Commerce rooms, Dominion Buildings, Queen street, and the Entertainment Committee will meet in those rooms this evening at 7.30.
