H.B. CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TOURNAMENT. The H.B. golf championship and handicap tournament were continued on the Waiohiki Links yesterday. The weather was warm and still and several good scores were registered. In the second round of the championship L. Bridge (Lower Hutt) beat E. C. Smith. (Napier), 2 up. This was rather unexpected, as Smith was reckoned to be fit for the final. Smith started badly, his opponent being 3 up on him after the first three holes. The local man, however, rallied well and at the 15th was all square. He lost the 17th and 18th and thus the match. Bridge and Goss (Wanganui) met in the final to-day over a 36-hole course. Christie, with the excellent total of 15, won yesterday's honours. Th© trophies wou during the tournament will be presented to the winners by the president of the Napier Golf Club, Mr N. Kettle, ut the conclusion of the four-ball competition. The tournament will conclude (>n Saturday afternoon with a mixed foursome, for which post entries will be received at the club house. TAKAPAU CLUB. (Own Correspondent.) The junior cup was won by W. Hobson on Wednesday, when he met H. H. Oldershaw and defeated him, on© up. The Johnston Cup was competed for by lady players on Wednesday and was won by Miss R. Cameron after tieing with Mr. P. J. Sanders at the eighteenth hole. The following are the best cards: — Miss R. Cuthbertson, reported that there was a satisfactory credit balance to the tournament account. The closing day. will probably be held on the first Saturday in October, and on the two preceding Saturdays matches will be played for donated trophies. NORTH v. SOUTH LADIES. Wanganui, Sept. 21. As a preliminary to the golf championship meeting, which commences tomorrow, a match was played to-day between the North and South Island ladies, and ended all square. The games resulted:— Mrs Guy Williams (Masterton) lost to Miss Wright (Timaru), 2 and 1. Miss Gambrill (Wellington) beat Miss Cracroft Wilson (Christchurch), 5 and 4. Miss Payton (Auckland) beat Mrs McCarthy (Otago), 4 and 3. Miss Withers (Miramar) lost to Mrs Cook (Otago), 3 and 2. Mrs Murphy (Hutt) and Miss Dixon (Christchurch), all square. Miss Snodgrass (Rotorua) and Mrs Ronald Orbell (North Otago), all square.
