• (Own Correspondent.) , At the last meeting of the Borough Council four tenders were received lor the painting of the Municipal Theatre, lire station, and gag manager’s residence. and the tender of Mr. P. J ull, of £l7O 10/- was acepted. • The Waipawa retailers had resolved to keep their bush ess premises open on ne Wednesday before the Show and the Wednesday alter Labour Day, but the chairman of the association has been advised by the Labour Department that the closing of the shops on the statutory half-holiday is compulsory, even though they close on special days or other days decided on, Mr. F. Johnson, son c-f the late Mr. L Johnson, of Waipawa, for some time chief clerk of the money order .office. Wellington, has been appointed Chief Postmaster at Wellington. Mr. Thom, of Otcichapga, has been appointed to succeed Mr. A. W. Murdoch as Postmaster at Waipawa. Mr. J. Milburn, of Waipawa. ir on an extended visit to Taumarunui where he has interests in a limber lease.
