waibere Club. This club’s green was formally opened for the season on Saturday, wheh there was a large attendance, including a fair sprinkling of ladies. The green was in good order, but unfortunately soon after play commenced ram fell, which marred what promised to be a very enjoyable afternoon. Thq opening ceremony was performed by the president, Mr. T. B. Bear, who welcomed the visitors and who expressed pleasure at seeing so many present. He referred to the success that had attended the New Zealand bowlers that had recently toured. Great Britain', and it was his pleasure to take tho opportunity of extending a welcome home to one of them (Mr. A. E. Benouf). The president then formally declared the green open and after Mrs. Bear had thrown up “Kitty” and the first bowl a full green engaged in a match President v. Vice-president, which resulted in a win for the forme® on the aggregate by 183 to 130. Mrs. Bear was tho hostess for the afternoon and supplied a dainty tea.
