The Soviet, which anticipated being able to feed two million starving peasants, now finds it is able fhis month to provide food for only half a million, but will be able to- supply 50 per cent in November and 75 per cent in December. The largest number of victims is among the children. An attempt to remove them from famine areas proved a failure. The children suffered terriably owing to defective means of transportation ,and in many instances half died on the journey.—(A. and N.Z.)
