ELSTHORPE.
(Own Correspondent.) A social and dance in aid of the Hall funds took place on Friday evening. There was a fair attendance of the residents. Messrs G. McAulay and Sydney Leyland acted as M’s.C., and Mr C. F. Haycock, Waipukurau, played the dance music. Negotiations have been going on between the Hawke’s Bay County Council and the Patangata County Council regarding the allocation of the cost of the completion of the road from Elsthorpe to the Waimarama bridge at Havelock North. The Patangata County Council at a meeting held at Elstborpo last September agreed to provide £4OOO towards this object. The Hawke’s Bay County Council suggested that a commission be set up to decide the liability of each county for the road to which the Patangata County Council agreed. Later on the Hawke’s Bay County Council made a further suggestion that the commission be deferred till after the through road was opened and in use for two years, when it could be ascertained who were the parties actually using the road. The Patangata County Council nt their monthly meeting held on the 9th inst. considered this proposal, and j eplied that it was of the opinion that the commission should be set up before there was any further expenditure on constructive work.
