WASHINGTON CONFERENCE.
M. BRIAND HEADS FRENCH DELEGATION New York, Aug. 15. The New York “Times ’ Washington correspondent says th State Department has been officially informed that M. Briand will head the French delegation at the Armaments Conference. Mr. C. E. Hughes has asked Congress to appropriate 200,000 dollars as the expenses of tho American delegation during the first two months. Paris reports that English will be the only official language at the conference. This is denied here, it being announced that French will also bo used. —(A. and N.Z.) LODGE ON U.S. COMMISSION. (Received 17, 10.5 a.m.) Washington. August 16. It is announced that Senator Lodge will be a member of the American commission at the Disarmament Conference,—(A. and N.Z.) STABILISING OF EXCHANGE. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE PROPOSED. (Received 17, 10.5 a.m.) Washington. August 16. Senator King has introduced a resolution authorising President Harding to call a conference of the leading mer» cantile nations to consider means oj stabilising the international exchange. —(A. and N.Z. )
