SILESIAN SITUATION.

Germany Sends A Note, j FRENCH ALLEGATIONS DENIED. PASSAGE OF TROOPS OPPOSED. (By Cable.—Prew Association.—Copyright.’ (Received 25, 9.55 a.m.) Paris, July 24. The German Government has sent a Note denying the French allegations* against German troops in Poland; also pointing out that they have now disbanded. Hie JNote says: “The German Government opposes the despatch of further French troops to Silesia.” Other Parisian reports state that Germany considers that the demand for the passage ot troops through German territory should emanate from all the Allies occupying Silesia. France, however, while not anxious to act alone, intimates that if Britain and Italy will not act, she will not hesitate to send reinforcements to assure the safety of French troops already in Silesia.—(A. and N.Z.) CHARGES AGAINST POLES. (Received 25, 1.10 p.m.) Berlin, July 24. The German reply to the French Note denies the alleged anti-French outrages ami declares that the situation in Upper Silesia is is no way threatened by the German population. It asserts that German defence forces have been disarmed and disbanded but the entire Polish insurgent military organisation remains in tho plebiscite territory. French troops have hitherto done nothing effectual to disarm the Poles. An increase of French troops would scarcely contribute to tho tranquility of the situation which is naturally strained owing to tho delay. Tho Note adds: “Germany will continue to endeavour to carry out the terms of the peace treaty, but the Poles must be made to observe the treaty and cease to strive fcr illegitimate aims.”— (Reuter.) FRENCH PRESS COMMENT. (Received 25, 1.10 p.m.) Paris, July 24. French newspapers describe the German Noto as insolent, proving Germany’s bad faith.—(A. and N.Z.)
