ARBITRATION COURT.
A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held in Napier this morning. Mr Justice Frazer presided, and was accompanied on the bench by Messrs Wm. Scott and J. A. McCullough. COMPENSATION. Samuel Burnett (Mr G. O. K. SainsFarmers’ Meat Company (Mr H. B. Lusk on behalf of Mr A. E. Currie) claiming £250. The statement of claim alleged that plaintiff on May sth, 1920, was employ ed in the company’s freezing chamber, and accidentally hit himself on the eye brow on an iron rail, as a result of which he finally lost the sight of his left eye. Defendant company admitted the accident, but denied that it resulted in tho loss of tho sight. Liability for compensation under tLe Workers’ Compensation Act was denied. After hearing evidence and legal arguments the court reserved decision. AWARD MATTERS. It was reported that a complete agreement in the drivers’ dispute had been reached. The court entered the agreement as an award. A complete recommendation in the saddlers dispute was forwarded by the Conciliation Council and was entered as an award. The following disputes were set down for this afternoon:— Country districts' wool and grain store workers, engine drivers, and, wholesale general s.toreworkers, country districts. There being no objection parties were added in the following award: - .Grocers, timber ys.rds and sawmills.-* Hawke’s Bay Nurserymen’s Award.— Statements were put in by the employers, employees and Labour Department, asking for an interpretation. The positim is that, that at the time the award was made no provision was made for female worker and a question has arisen as to their classification.
