JAP. ASSASSIN PLOTS.

MEMBERS OF GANG ARRESTED PUBLIC MEN GUARDED. Tokio, Feb. 28. The residences of members of the Cabinet and Court dignitaries are strictly guarded aS the result of the attack on Saionji. The latter’s assailants are said to be members of a secret society, seven members of which, besides six already arrested, have been apprehended. A groceryman who attempted to submit a written petition to the Crown Prince while the latter was riding wAs arrested. A man attempting to enter the residence of Prince Kanin, of the Supreme Military Council, was seized. It is believed four men, assassins of Baron Bingonshoku, were arrested near Port Arthur.—(A. and N.Z.) [Seven assailants attempted to assassinate Hachiro Saionji, a son of Marquis Saionji, a former Premier and head of the Japanese delegation to the Paris Peace Conference. He drove them off with a sword. Sainoji expects to accompany the Crown Prince abroad.] JAPAN AND PACIFIC ISLES. CHICAGO PAPER’S ALLEGATIONS. New York, Feb. 28. The “Chicago News” correspondent at Rouk, Caroline Island, states that the Japanese naval authorities are making two important strategic moves under Japan’s mandate over the Pacific Islands. It is understood foreigners will be able to enter the islands only after securing papers of permission, which are rarely given when commerce is the object. High power radio stations are being erected on the islands of Witje and Palau.—(A. and N.Z.)
