THE PICTURE HOUSES.

“BLIND HUSBANDS.” The Perfect Picture. —What is perhaps tho most awe-inspiring scenery every recorded by the motion picture camera is seen in i 1 Blind Husbands,” the Universal photodrama of the Tyrolean Alps, which commences a threenights’ season at the Alunicipal Theatre, Hastings to-night. “Blind Husbands” is accorded a place on the topmost rung of tho ladder of cinema accomplishment by critics. It is the work of Eric Stroheim, Universal director, who wrote, directed and starred in the production. Francelia Billington, Sam DeGrasse and T. H. Gibson-Gowland compose the able cast playing in his support. A Robert W. Chambers’ story should always excite a little thrill in the feminine heart, and “Even as Eve,” the First National special attraction adapted from his “Shining Band,” which is showing on the same bill, makes a picture that for sheer excitement and entertaining value administers a knockout to the novel. Grace Darling makes her first appearance in the leading role, and her thrilling experiences with the band of fanatics whose endeavour to keep the sexes apart is so productive of trouble are tellingly shown. Seats may be booked by ringing the theatre, ’phone 444. EVERYBODY’S. “Alias Jimmy Valentine.” Paul Armstrong’s celebrated stage play, which in screen form, will be seen at Everybody’s Theatre, Hastings, this evening, raises the question of whether under modern prison conditions a man can return to society after serving a sentence with a fair chance of becoming an honest and respected citizen; or whether he wilf be forced again into breaking the lad. The women’s favourite, Bert Lytell, is the star, and he has an interesting role to play. Also on the bill is “The Rajah,” a Pathe production, featuring Harold Lloyd and Bebe Daniels, and Jaco, the human ape, and a further episode of the serial, “The Great Gamble.” Every body’s orchestra will play selected music, which will add to the attractiveness of th* evening’s entertainment.
