N.Z. AUTOMOBILE UNION.

7 iS Wellington, July 22. The seventh annual meeting of the New Zealand Automobile Union was held to-day, Dr. U. P. Knight ingBefore consideration of the business was begun Alessrs A. E. Ansell, M. Stevenson and H. fialliday entered the room and it was announced Siat they desired to attend the meeting as representatives of the recently-formed South island L nion. Mr. A. S. Clarkson said that along with Mr. U, F. Malfroy he was present, as representative of the ’ Canterbury Automobile Association. It was resolved tiiat the visitors be allowed to attend the conference as delegates from the Otago and Canterbury Automobile Associations,, it was decided that the Alinisfer u» Internal Affairs should, on account of the narrowness of the country roads, be asked to enforce the regulation prohibiting <notor-car owners or drivers loading luggage or gooffs projecting beyond the running-boards of the cars. A remit from the Alarlborough Automobile Association was passed urging that every driver of a motor-car should have a certificate of competency before being allowed to drive the car on public roads. Letters were read from the Otago Motor Club and the Canterbury Automobile Association stating that those bodies wished to resign from the union. Mr. Stuart Wilson (Wellington) moved that the resignations be accepted. Considerable discussion took place, during which it’was urged that some means should be devised to bring the South Island Motor Union into closer touch with the N.Z. Automobile Union, ft was explained by Air. Ansell that the formation of tlie new union was not the result of jealousy between the North and South islands. Mr. Stevenson jgioved an amendment that the resignations be held over in the meantime, so that the two bodies concerned might consider the matter, and indicate in what way they could assi'st the New Zealand Union. The amendment was carried. On the proposition of Mr. Wynyard (Auckland), it was decided that fees from affiliated associations should be as follows: —Minimum ±U>, maximum. £3O.

The question whether the publication of the Year Book should bo continued was referred to the incoming committee. '

It was resolved: —“That uniform warning signs to be placed at- the approaches to schools be agreed upon and made general throughout the Dominion.
