EGMONT RACES.
Hawera, May 12. A beautiful sunny day, but a rather strong wind, marked the opening of the Egniont meeting. The course was good, and there was a very large attendance. Results:—
Telegraph Hack Handicap (first division!.—Marble Bar 1, Lady Paula 2, Qniniro 3. Scr.: Income, Miss Norval, Haukino, Sociable. Won by 1J lengths, three-quarters of a length separating second and third horses. Time, 1.5 1-5.
Tongaeioe Hurdles. —- Luperino 1, Lochelhi 2, Applaud 3. Scr.: Marconi and Harbour Light. Won by half a length, two lengths between second and third. Time, 3.215. SOUTH CANTERBURY RESULTS. Timaru. May 12. For the South Canterbury races the weather is dull, with an intermittent drizzle. The course is greasy, and the attendance large. Results:— Maiden Handicap.—Pitprop 1, Charleroi 2. Bcngeroop 3. All started. Won by two lengths. Time 1.10 1-5. Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase:— Luke 1. Ngakanui 2. Silent Dick 3. Scratched: Ngaroto, Harbour Light, Cello. Negambo. Sahlo. Otter. Won by two lengths six lengths separating second and third horses. Time, 4.2.>[.
