WHOLESALE EXECUTIONS
London, March 19. An American correspondent describes the executions of the Spartacists in Moabit Prison, Berlin. A long line of prisoners, poorly dressed, including many ex-soldiers in faded uniforms, a number of whom were lame, were dragged with their comrades chained to their wrists. They filed through the gates. Women, crying and pleading for mercy, were driven like weary cattle by armed soldiers. . The executions began with a splutter of machineguns, accompanied by howls and cries—then silence. A lieutenant who emerged saio ; We stood them up and made them pass before the machineguns. They fell like dominos. There were 220 altogether. CONTROL OF NAVIGATION. (Received 20. 9.10 a.m.) Paris. March 18. The British proposals for an international air code have been accepted by the special committee. An inter allied council will be formed subsidiary to the. League of Nations to control aerial navigation. ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA. £io,ouo PRIZE. (Received 20, 19.50 a.m.) Melbourne, March 20. With a view to stimulating aerial activity, the Federal Government is offering a prize of £lO,OOO for a- successful flight from England to Australia on a machine manned by Australians.—(A. and N.Z.)
