By way of explanation, the Mayor desires to ’nforin the people of Hastings that Rose Day was started by the Queen Mother in 1911 throughout Great Britain, and roses are sold as souvenirs, all proceeds now go to the Red Cross, so that in assisting the Battle of Coppers the money will eventually reach the Red Cross people. These roses are all made by the cripplied girls of England, who are specially kept and educated by this work, so under such circumstances, every rose sold serves a dual purpose. On his last visTt to Auckland the Mayor arranged for a good supply which are available for Saturday, August 24.
