CONFERENCE OR SECRET BALLOT. Auckland. August 1-1. A mass mcerfng of Miners was held in Huntley to-day 560 men being present from the Huntley, Teakatea. Pukemiro, and Rotowaru mines. The official statement says that it unanimously repudiated the statements by the mine-owners that the Federation Executive is responsible for the demands. It was also unanimously decided by secret ballot that in the event of a conference not being granted within seven days, the miners immediately close work. Work is resuming to-morrow pending the decision re a conference. The secretary of the Hikurangi Company has received word t.iat tho miners at Hikurangi decided to leave the decision regarding the conference in the hands of the Miners’ Federation. The night shift is to work as usual this evening.
