Mr. and Mrs. Angus McKinnon, of Arapawanui. arc visiting Napier.

Advice has been received that; Trooper A. A. Taylor, son of Mr. J. i Taylor, of Fernhill, is returning to| New Zealand with the next draft of! invalids from Egypt, where he has I been serving for the past three ■ years.

Mr. James Pointon, who died at his residence, 153, Esplanade, Petone .yesterday, at the age of 57, arrived I in Auckland by the ship Waikato in 11882. He followed his occupation as a builder in Napier for some years, and eventually came to Petone, where he has resided ever since. He leaves a widow, nine sons, and four daughters. His father, Mr. George Pointon, who is 81 years of age, is still living in Petone. Lieutenant Albert E. M. Rowland. New Zealand Cyclists’ Corps, well known in Christchurch, having been activ ly engaged in manv branches of sport in that city, has been killed in action. In 1907 at the New Zealand Exhibition he won the one and three mile amateur walking contests. He left the same years for the United Kingdom, and was again successful in walking events at the FrancoBritish Exhibition. He broke the Scottish record, and was placed second in the English Amateur Championship. Before returning to New Zealand he visited India. He enlisted in Wellington with the 21st Reinforcement, and was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
