WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Own Correspondent.) In? monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held yes terday. Present: Crs. L. McKay, chair; W. Hobson. L. Glenny, W. Little, A. Cook, J. Holden and J. Mclntyre. ‘CORRESPONDENCE. The Pahiatua County Council, enclosed a resolution asking for Board of Control of Gorge bridges— Referred to County’s delegate. Woodville County Council object ed to proposed P>oard of Control for Gorge bridges. Referred to County’s delegates. Waipukurau County Council wrote re closing of road through Mr. McRobert’s property.—To be informed that Council is closing the road in question and offering a more direct route to Marakeke station. Waitoma County Council enclosed resolution re native representation on local bodies.—Referred to Counties’ Association. Pahiatua County Council asked for service of linesman, chairman sfcid overseer to confer with applicants to get further information and given power to act. Paterson and Robertson, Onga, made an offer to pay towards maintenance of road.—Accepted. Overseer authorised to proceed with work. R. A. Fraser asked that fresh tenders be called for Marakeke road.-—Tenders to be called. Public Works Department wrote re renewal of rates for different works.—Received. Settlers on Gwavas settlement drew attention to the bad state of Matheson’s road. —Received. ! W. Peterson, complained of Forest Gate Water race.—Member for riuing to interview the chairman oi the water-race committee. I H. O. Lee, linesman, tendered ' resignation on being accepted foi active service.—Received. John A. Macfarlane asked for telephone extension to mill.—Left in the hands of the overseer. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer reported as follows: Waipawa riding: As soon as Venan has finished the Otane-Argyll road he will start on the Main Napier road and when the grader is done on the Te Onepu road it will be used on the Waip<awa-Tikokino road. Hamp>den riding: McMillan has started his contract on Kercru roao. A grader is reforming the middle road and when completed the formation of Baird’s road will be commenced.

Ruataniwha riding: Venan has completed Jus two contracts in this riding. Have arranged for drains to be cleaned out on swamp roao and two culverts are required on the Onga-Tikokino road. » Onga riding: Worst portions of the Ridge road attended to. Takapau riding:—lsaaism has started the formation of road behind Omawharo and the Council’s team has been occupied for the month in patching the various roads of the riding. Cr. Hobson instructed me to spend £l5 on improving the cutting leading down to Awanui creek bndge. MAIN BRIDGES. All piers are finished in the AngaTikokino bridge and the girders to two spans. Given good weather the bridge should be finished by next meeting. All groynes are finished at Fletchers crossing bridge and the work of fencing the embankment is now in hand. Telephones:—The Overseer again drew the Councils attention to the unsatisfactory position of several of our telephone subscribers whose properties have recently changed hands. He was not able to get transfers completed on account of the neglect of the persons concerned. The action of Cr. Hobson was endorsed in authorising the expenditure of £l5. The position re telephones was considered very unsatisfactory and more stringent rules are W be adopted. GENERAL. The clerk reported that the natives had offered to metal the Mataweka road at £2 ppr day for each team. —Accepted. It was arranged for councillors.to meet on Saturday next To deal with tenders- for telephone linesman which close on Saturday. On the motion of Cr. Cook a return is to be submitted t-o the next meeting showing the amount of revenue collected as dog tax and pounding. j The pay sheet amounted x o £2106 which included Hospital levy and the next meeting fixed for September 6th.
