Arthur Leggs, a Government Savings Bank teller, was committed for trial on a charge of stealing £14,000 the. property of the bank. Accused’s written statement disclosed that the money was lost during a period ot tw’o months by betting, mostly’ during the last Randwiek meeting. He starved with £4,000 on the first dav and on the last day in a final effort to recover he ventured £7,000, backing fancies in big sums. ffle p-.iv £2,500 on one horse and lost everything, excepting £5OO which he handed to the Commissioners when he made a clean breast of his defalcations.
