The Military Service Medical Board left Napier by car this afternoon for Wairoa. One case of diphtheria from Hastings was reported to the Hospital Board to-day. The latest recruit is James W, Simpson, labour, Provincial Hotel, Napier, who was medically examined at the Napier Drill Hall on Tuesday night and passed for service. Donald Murray Matheson, chief clerk at the Nelson Railway Station was charged in the Magistrate s Court. Nelson to-day, with stealing £628 between September 191 G, ano February 1917, the property of the New Zealand Government. He was remanded till Wednesday.— Press Association. The National Reserve conference at Wellington to-day unanimously decided that the Dominion Commandant be urged to issue orders to district commandants and group commanders, that on no _ account should any unit of the National Reserve be permitted to take any action as an organisation in dealing with industrial disputes.. The conference also carried motions having for their object an increase in the sphere of the operations of the Reserve. These were submitted to the Hon James Allen, who received them favourably.— Press Association. A deputation of Seventh Day Adventists waited on the Hon. Sir J. Allen this afternoon. The principal request was that they should be allowed to carry out non-combatant service only and also that they should not be required to perform such duties on the Lord’s sabbath from sunset on Friday.till sunset on Saturday. The Minister pointed out that the Military Boards had power to deal with conscientious religious objectors. As for the observance of the Sabbath the war was carried out every day. Great inconvenience and difficulty would arise if an attemept was made to differentiate in the case of Seventh Day Adventists in training camps.
