ITALIAN FRONT.
AUSTRIAN OFFENSIVE PREPARING. ON THE TRENTINO FRONT. [AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSN.] (Received 17, 11.50 a.m.) Milan, Nov. 16. There is a remarkable renewal of enemy activity on the Trentino front, which is regarded as foreshadowing another formidable Aus-tro-Hungarian offensive with the hope of breaking into the Venetian Plain, and relieving the pressure on the Carso. Heavy reinforcements of artillery and infantry for the past fortnight have been concentrating on the Trentino under the personal supervision of General von Hoetzenoff, who, despite his bitter experience, may still consider the Trentino the most favourable point for invasion of Italy. Hungarian newspapers confirm the report regarding the Austrian plans and express regret that it will have the effect of weakening the Transylvanian expedition. The situation, however, must be owing to the Italian menace.
