AUCKLAND DRIVERS DISPUTE.
TROUBLE THREATENED. Auckland, Nov. 6. Serious trouble is threatened in connection with the Arbitration Court award in the Auckland driver’s dispute. The men complain that they had to wait twelve months for the court’s decision, and now conditions are so unsatisfactory that they refuse to submit to the terms of the award. A meeting of the union, at which 270- members were' present, passed resolutions in which they expressed the opinion that the court had failed to make fair and reasonable provision in accordance with the weight of the evidence and the conditions existing in the industry. The union asserts that the court has no longer the confidence of this body of workers, and allege that its decisions show prejudice strongly in favour of the Employers’ Federation. It urges the Government to appoint a commission to inquire into the alleged unjust treatment of the drivers by the court, and that an appeal be made to the local organisation of transport workers for co-operation in the matter. WELLINGTON DISSATISFIED. "Wellington, Nov. 6. The Drivers’ Union yesterday carried motions that the wages £2 12/for a 52 hour week in Wellington as awarded by the Arbitration Court was totally inadequate and a sweating wags. The award was indefensible and against the weight of evidence. The union expressed complete lack of confidence in the impartiality of the court, and resolved to avoid it in future, asking the employers for a conference and opening" negotiations with the waterside workers in view of a working arrangement for present and ultimate amalgamation.
