WAR PENSIONS.

A RECORD WEEK. Welligton, Nov. 6. Last week was a record week so far as the number of war pension claims lodged was concerned, the, applications totalling 215, against 203 for the previous highest week. The yearly value of pensions and allowances granted during the week was £.5313, bringing the total up to £221,002 per annum. Altogether the Pensions Board dealt last week with 163 cases, of which 125 were new claims, and 36 applications for renewal of temporary pensions, while two were special eases. Of the 125 claims dealt with 33 were from soldiers, six were granted permanent pensions and twenty one temporary pensions, while five claims were declined and one adjourned. Of ninety two claims frpm dependants four were declined and four adjourned, while seventy nine dependants were granted pensions and. live temporary allowances. Of thirty six temporary pensions twenty two were continued, eleven determined forthwith, two converted into permanents, and one adjourned. One special case, that of a soldier who asked for increased pension, was adjourned for further information, while another was that of a. mother who had her pension raised by 10/- a week on account of the loss of her second son. Pensions and allowances granted to date may be summarised as under :— Soldiers : 811 pensions and 2251 allowances granted, 316 claims refused. 13 adjourned, 32 on hand; total claims, 3243. Dependants: 1266 pensions and 139 allowances granted. 128 claims refused, 13 adjourned, 42 on hand; total claims, 1588. The annual value of pensions and allowances is as follows :—Soldiers’ pensions 811, annual value £43,721, average £53 per year. Wives’ and widows’ pensions, including 431 children. 301. annual value £28.924. average £96 per year. Other dependants pensions 965, annual value £28,279. average £29 per year. Temporary allowances 2390, annual value rate £120.078, average £5O per year. Gross totals: 4467 pensions and allowances, annual value £221,002, average £49 per annum.
