Showery weather prevailed for the opening of the Racing Club’s Spring meeting. There was a large attendance aijd speculation was brisk, £33,263 passing through the totalisator, compared with £25.023 last year, an increase of £8240. The racing was good. Following are the concluding results: —

City Handicap. — Lady Penury 1, Tepapapa 2, Bisogne 3. Also started : Colonel Soult, King Lupin, Prince Merriwee, El Gallo, _ Sir Ralph. Bisogne, Prince Merriwee and King Lupin were first away and led out of the straight. Colonel Soult was third to last. Along the back Bisogne lost her place and Lady Penury took the lead followed by King Lupin and Tepapapa. The order was maintained into the straight where King Lupin retired. Lady Penury maintained her advantage to the finish, winning by two ad a half lengths. Bisogne who finished very fast, was half a length away third. Colonel Soult was fourth. Time, 2.8 3-5. Genevieve was first to move but was quickly supplanted for the lead by Brown Lock who led throughout, winning comfortably by three lengths from Bellacity. Erroneous was half a length awav. Also started: Hopfield, Jack Delaval, Tinopai, Torotoro, Downham, Lady Glen, Prince Soult, Gold Lacr Soultane was first away- followed by Glenroy. The latter quickly went to the front and, entering the straight two lengths clear of Downham and Soultane, won very easily by three lengths from Royal Irish, who finished fast.
