LOYAL TAVISTOCK LODGE. The above mentioned lodge held its usual fornightly meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hail, on Thursday night Bro. J. Monk, presiding over a good attendance of brethren Sick pay amounting to £l2 11 - was passed for payment. District dues and Society Funeral Levy, amounting to £26 and Fire insur-; ance premium on the hall and pro-, perty was passed for payment The Cor. Secretary, Bro. Fielder/ wrote stating there was no rule the Hawke’s Bay District to aIL-wj initiation of members at half rates < for half benefits. An interesting discussion took place on this subject and also on the question privilege of honorary members Bro. AV. A. Chambers, P.P.G. M . in moving a vote of condolence an 1 sympathy to our worthy Prov. Coe.. Secretary Bro. J. B. Fielder in the. loss he had sustained in the death I of Mrs. Fielder, spoke feelingly ofj the many virtues of that, lady and of ‘ the kindness and hospitality he hail received from both Mr. and Mrs. Fielder when he was a District Officer. The vote was carried in silence.

A letter was received from Mrs. Brown, L T pper Mangoree, New Plymouth, in reply to a letter of sympathy from the Per. Secretary (Bro Bollons), on the death of her. son, Bro. F. Brown in his country's service. Mrs. Brown is of opinion that there is some mistake as on September 16th she had received a cable stating that Bro. Brown had been admitted to the hospital with a wounded hand, and on October 3rd another cable came to hand stating that Bro Brown was killed in action. Mrs. Brown can not see how her son could possibly be fit for the trenches a fortnight after being sent to the hospital and is still hoping that the second cable is a mistake, and expects definite news by the end of November. It is to be hoped that our brother is only wounded as the first cable says. Mr. and Mrs. Bogle wrote, acknowledging receipt of the Lodge’s sympathy with them in their sorrow at the loss of their son and Lodge Surgeon of this Lodge, the late Dr. G. V. Bogle, who gave his life for his country in‘France.

At nine p.m., the Oddfellows’ War anthem was impressively sung by the members present. Lodge honours were accorded to visiting brethren from Napier, Gisborne, Canterbury and Wellington. A new member was proposed.
