CHRISTMAS GIFTS FUND.

MONEY RAISED BY NAPIER COMMITTEE. £lOOO FORWARDED. Over £lOOO was raised by the recent carnival in Napier, and the Christmas Gifts Fund Committee has forwarded the following letter to the Minister of Defence : — ‘‘Adverting to my letter of the 2nd ultimo and to your reply of sth ult., I now have much pleasure in enclosing herewith draft on the National Bank. Wellington, for the sum of £lOOO. It is probable that when all expenses are paid there will be a further amount for transmission to you. My con mittee would be pleased if, when you cable the money to the High Commissioner, you will, state that the money is to be spent on our boys in France, Egypt, Mesopotamia, in hospitals, or prisoners of war, and that goods be purchased which are most needed by tire boys, whether food, clothing, or any other thing which will bring joy and comfort. In cabling the above amount to the Hig.i Commissioner with abqve instructions. I would be glad if you wid convey to the Dominion troops the best v.’ishes of the people of Napier.—W. Hislop. Hon.
