WAIPAWA.

(Own Correspondent.) Quite a cold snap uas been experienced in the district for trie last two days, and as a result the Ruahines are capped with snow. Saowery weather has also prevailed in the nlackburn district of late, and shearing operations have been retarded in consequence. The blacksmith shop, with contents, occupied by Mr. A. D. Stewart, Onga Onga, was destroyed by fire in tne eariy hours of (Saturday morning. The origin of the fire is unaccounted for. An insurance of £l5O on tne building and contents was held by tne Guardian Office. Mr. Stewart with promptitude resumed business in temporary premises on Monday morning. Erratum. —In my magistrate’s Court notes of Friday the defendant’s initials in the civil case, Hallenstein Bros. v. Haster were given as W. Hasler whereas it snould have been A. Haster. A dance is to be held to-night in the Concert Hall under the auspices of the local Fire Brigade in aid of uniform funds, and as the object is a deserving one a large attendance is anticipated. The many friends of Miss Bott, of Bott’s tea rooms, will be pleased to hear that she is now convalescent after a long period spent in the District Hospital, where at one time her condition was critical. A very successful rehearsal was held by the Choral (society on Tuesday evening of items to be submitted to an audience on November Sth. The concert items are very harmonious and undoubtedly will be much appreciated by those attending the concert. Included in the latest recruits for business at the front from this district are the following : —Messrs. J. Pell, W. Peters, C. Renner, T. Gollan, J. A. Cosgrove, B. M. Cosgrove, W. Ritchie, D. Hildreth, R. H. Todd, H. G. Carlson and J. D. Faulknor.
