THE DOMINION.

VARIOUS FUNDS. NAPIER. WAR VICTIMS RELIEF. Mrs. Mackay advises us that five large cases of clothing have been shipped by the S.S. ‘ Delphic’’ to the War Victims Relief Committee of the Society of Friends in London. The contents include 232 new garmets from the Presbyterian at Havelock per Mrs Holdsworth ; 155 from the Havelock working party per Mrs Holdsworth ; 54 padded quilts per Mrs. Sadler Smith ; 24 garments made by women prisoners in Napier gaol per Mrs. Richmond : a large quantity of warm new clothing per Mrs. Lane ; a par cel of children’s clothing per Mrs. Coleman; and 14 rugs purchased with money supplied by sympathizers. In the last letter received from Miss Ashby, secretary of the Committee, she writes : —“The five cases have arrived this week. We have not unpacked them all yet but have done enough to see what useful things they are—and once again a glorious assortment of quilts. We are sending more workers to Russia and several doctors and nurses, so that they may open a hospital for the refugees. Imagine I many have tramped 1000 miles from their homes, and you may think what a flight like that must have meant on foot with the old, the infirm and the very young dying by the way. The history of this war can never be written; it is not told in numbers and casualties, it is told in death agonies, heart breakings, ruin and loss unspeakable. I have been told that the sufferings of the Belgians are as nothing compared with what these poor Poles and Russians have had to go through. Please tell all the workers how much we value their continued assistance. With grateful thanks to each one.—Ethel M. Ashbv.”
