Mr. and Mrs. Ormond, of Mabia, aer visiting Napier. Major Crawshaw, of Napier is on a visit to Gisborne. Mr. W. Kinross White, of Omgranui, is visiting Wellington. Mr. E. J. Watt arrived in Hastings last night from Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Hill, who have been visiting Napier, returned by mail train to south to-day. The Rev. T. Tait, of the Port Presbyterian Church, has accepted the call from Manaia, Taranaki. Mr. Thos. Quinlivan returned to Hastings from Australia by the mail train last night. Mr. H. S. Moss, secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club,, left Hastings for Wellington this morning. Sister H. L. Donald, who was Plunket Nurse at Napier for many years, is now nursing at the New Zealand Militarj* Hospital, Hornchurch, Essex. Mr. W. H. Cook, who was recently appointed engineer to the New Plymouth Borough Council, leaves Hastings to-morrow morning to take up his new duties. Mr. R. Dalton, H.M. Trade Commissioner, left Hastings this morning for Pukehou, and this afternoon will proceed on to Palmerston North. It is the intention of the Commissioner to pay another visit to Hastings at an early date. Private Chas. Henry Smith, B ■ Company, 21st Reinforcements, died at Trentham Military Hospital yes terday morning from cerebro-spinal meningitis. Private Richard Wearne Sharplin died at Featherston Military Hospital yesterday morning from qncumonia, following measles. —Press Association.

Mr. F. W. Williams, president of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, left Napier by mail train this morning for Wellington to attend the conference called by the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. D. S. Macdonald) to be held at the Parliamentary Buildings, Wellington, to-morrow, where he has promised to make a statement with regard to the price of meat ft>r the ensuing year.

A pleasing little, function took place at the Hastings Bowling and Croquet Club’s green this afternoon, when a large number of ladies assembled to make a presentation and bid farewell to'a prominent member of the club, Mrs. W. H. Cook, who, with her husband and family, leave for New Plymouth to-morrow morning. Appreciative remarks were made by those present. The afternoon was devoted to croquet, etc., a dainty afternoon tea being provided.
